the colours of the tasmanian landscape are amazing- I'm sure jess is sick of hearing me say: "oh, look at the colour of that tree against that rock" or check out the colour of that cliff and those flowers on it". She humours me and agrees that "yes, wow, that looks great".

Today we went on a three hour hike up some mountains/big hills and saw crater lake. from the point which we got too the wind was unforgiving and the scenery was amazing. unfortunately all the photo's we've taken have been on film so I won't be able to post any (that being because of a lack of the lack of a scanner).

Its going to be a pretty full-on weekend when we get back, but with everyones events/party's/gigs etc it should be a blast so hope to see you at all your respective functions.

Cradle Mountain Chateau, Tasmania

Yesss, its the end of another LONG day in the Cradle Mountain Chateau. Jess is just dropped of to sleep so I've stopped the watercolour painting for a minute to drop all you fine folk an update.

Today we canooed against the current in Dove Lake, facing waves 1 to 1 and a half foot. We checked out Guide Falls and went to a scary family run alpaca farm (is there any other kind?), and eventually, veryyyy tiredly came back to play a few games of pool and drink some cokes and vodka- great night. The best part was dinner/room service- gourmet cheeseburgers and fries. Damn.

I'd count my blessings but I can only count so high. Will post picts when back in Melb.

Yes- back in the blogging game- sort of- and hopefully for a while. Julian and I participated in an exhibition as a part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival. We bought a Ford Falcon sedan and spent a few week painting all over it, then on the opening night in front of maybe 200 people, we destroyed it! I laid into the poor auto with sledgehammers, metal baseball bats and a mattock in a fury that both Gustav Metzger and the Who would've been proud of.

went to the State Of Origin last night- it was HUGE! there was fifty-four something thousand people in the stadium! It was an awesome game- Queensland JUST won and there were a few very controversial rulings by the video ref against them not long into the second half but it was such a close game!

I hit my first animal whilst driving on Monday, I was going towards Pascoe Vale Rd on Victoria St from Brunswick... He was just sitting with five or six or his other little birdy mates, in the rain and having a great time chirping and tweeting. I even slowed down to 40 km's and beeped the horn repeatedly... all his mates flew off but he continued to happilly peck at the ground and then he realised, too late, and instead of flying off, way from the car, he flew towards and under the centre of the car!

"Cheep Cheep, he fellas, this sure is tasty squished bug on the ground! Cheep cheep, hey fellas? where are you all going? Cheep cheep! hey whats that noise? what the--- AAHHH!"

the 'you are the ants pants' essay/lecture (06-27-06)

I dont think I've ever given this saying any thought, really. I think its interesting that we use this saying to describe something/body as 'good', so by extentsion, we think that 'ants pants' are also good. This is a little curious because it is a commonly known fact that ants do not wear pants. Ants are insects. Insects do not wear pants. Animals do not wear pants, not even really smart primates that supposedly vary from us genetically in only a very small way.

I do however like the idea of ants wearing pants. They would have to be incredibly small and be of the finest worksmanship. Not all people/human beings wear 'good' pants. The idea that all/any ants's pants are good is quiet intriguing. An entire race of beings (in this case 'ants') all having exceptionally good pants. Would the pants be good because they are practical? or perhaps all ants's pants are just on the forefront of cutting edge fashion? maybe they are (as mentioned) all taloured and made from the finest silks and cut and sewn with amazing precision to give the utmost stylish fit?

Whatever reason for the ants pants being good, i hear that they are: good.

exhibiting on painting dept. wall

This week I exhibited some work on the painting dept. wall. It was great- people who I dont normally talk too found me and commented on it and two people I dont even know introduced themselves after seeing it. Overall the feedback was great and the tute I had with one of my lecturers today about it was really positive. I also took some proper photos with my film/camera today- they should turn out better than these crappy mobile-phone photos.

Heavy Metal, Zine Fair and Shopping for Dad

what do you get a 40 year old truck driving dad? I dont know I'm stumped and I cant just keep walking around shopping centres for hours hoping to see "the right present". Just something I've done for a few hours this weekend.

Jess and I went to the Yeah Write! Zine Fair at Hawthorn Town Hall on Saturday and cleaned up! we were only there for 3 hours but we left with considerably less zines and other stuff. Looking forward to the Geelong Zine Fair!

I did go to Julians Band's gig on Thursday night- HEAD INC rocked the Arthouse- it was great- the whole time I was thinking of the Mountain Goats song, 'the best ever death metal band out of denver', good night out.

my body is still cactus, its a lot better than Monday but I wouldnt say that I am a "well" man either. I wont bore you all again with my symptoms, I feel like thats all I've done 4-5 times a day everyday since I 've been sick so I'll spare the whinge-fest.

Yesterday I ended up sitting in a car with Owen, Lily and Ruth (driving) for almost 4 hours in total and it gave me some time to think about why I've been so sick and I realised that I've been sick pretty much almost the entire time that Jess has been Nursing f/time. I think I may be getting sick from my contact with her. Her immune system would have built up to all these hospital 'bugs' while shes been working and when she see's me I end up catching all the stuff she's carrying but isnt affected by... hmmm... I dont have any real authority to make that conclusion because I havent done any REAL medical training but it seems vaguely plausible.

I was going to see Julian play tonight but I dont know how wise that is (seeing as I want to get well and another late night wont help) but I very well may defy logic and common sense and go anyway- at least thats what Im thinking now anyway: HEAD INC PLAY THE ARTHOUSE, 616 ELIZABETH ST MELBOURNE APRIL 20TH.

In unrelated news- the last 2/3 days I have been sick as a dog... I felt fairly crappy on Saturday, woke up on Sunday with a temperature of 38-39, and have been fairly feverish the whole time through. step 1: walk into the store and ask the store assisstants: "wheres the porn section?"

step 2: locate and select copy and take to counter.

step 3: ask store assisstants at counter whether they have seen it and whether its any good.

step 4: umm and arr about the selection with the store attendents before taking it back to the shelves and re-selecting.

step 5: choose new title and take up to counter.

step 6: take home and....

step 7: return and try and get a refund (the whole dollar) because it wasnt that good.

CFI faux exhibition

This is from a CFI (Centre for Ideas) class a few weeks ago. Some of the Visual Arts students volunteered to do a presentation and so I came up with this idea of just to do an exhibition. So we all bought some work along, put it up on the classroom walls and served red and white wine and crackers just like what would happen at a gallery exhibition on opening night. Not many people got into the wine- it was an 11:00am class.

also I havent posted in a while because my camera/phone hasnt been connecting to the computer- its been real tempermental. Hopefully from here on out though its all okay. Also! Johns band, Worlds End Press are playing at 161 tonight (thats 161 high st) so pop in if you can!

Tomorrow betwwen 12:00 and 5:00pm there will be just over 40, thats FORTY! zine stalls in the melbourne town hall! should be fun! Kiera, Owen and I have laid claim to a stall and will be trying to flog our wares...

Worlds End Press (Johns band), play click click. Yes. Well they did anyway. I am safely at home at the early hour of 1:33am. I say the gig earlier though. And I had many drinks. And caused a ruckus. And had a great time in doing so. Causing a ruckus involved: sliding like a seal on the sofa chairs at the club, getting beers poured on me (thankyou kiera and hannah), eating ice-cubes off tables (I think that was securities final straw), pretending to eat peoples brains from the top of their heads, and generally having a hellova good time. Anna took photo's so I hope I can get my grubby, sticky mits on sum of them to post in a later entry.

Needless to say security decided I'd had enough and told me to go home. It was strange though, security seemed personally offended by my behaviour, like what I was doing was specifically aimed at them... THEY seemed really sad that they had to tell me to go home. It was just as well because the last train to broadmeadows was 10 minutes after I got ejected.

I've been absent from blogger for a little while, was it a few days or a week? In that time I caught up with Anna and Sally, had a final suit fitting for this wedding, saw Matt Griffin in Brunswick which was a little surreal (like when you're a lot younger and you see your primary school teachers shopping and its strange to see them outside of school) and been drawing alot. I really felt "in-the-zone" artisically today. Heres a double pager spread from my pocket sketchbook frow a few days ago.

I saw that Johnny Cash movie, "walk the line", it was okay but critics and die-hard fans might be a little dissappointed that the fazed religion out of his later life and replaced it with Hollywood romance (not saying that 'that' didnt happen either though!)- still, great movie.

yesterday was sunday. went to church, went to pipeworks with Dad and Lij, talked to a bunch of birds and two lizards at the pet shop and then went to Mr Pockets (pool hall) in the evening.

I also did this drawing there.

nice to see everyone loved the kitty as well.

I was empting my photo's from my camera onto my computer and I re-found these photos I took one nite last year. There was a recently killed, large, feral cat on pascoe vale road. I was amazed at its size and its state of recent departure from the living world. I know some people wont appreciate this (i dont really expect anyone to) but at the time I thought it was just something that is not often seen and therefore needed to be photographed.

Yes. I bought this nifty pocket sized sketchbook which I've been scribbling into. Here is just one of the aforementioned scribbles.

am on holidays and very busy catching up with people, the birthdays, a friends wedding so I do apologise for not updating as regulary as I'd (and perhaps, 'you'd',) like me to.

NYE 2006 was at Bonnies in Glenroy. On top of the photo there was also Mel, Mitsy and Bonnie (of course) in attendence. This is well overdue- but I only got the photos yesterday!
